It’s time. His words, not mine. It’s time were the words written by David Jacoby who has announced that he’s leaving ESPN. After 23 years with the company, Jacoby is moving on the greener pastures. Although, we haven’t found out his next career path yet so maybe hold off on the greener pastures part for now.
“It’s time,” Jacoby wrote. “After 23 years with ESPN, we have mutually decided to move on. I’ve learned everything I know there, met my best friends there, met my wife there, and leave with zero regrets. I can’t wait to share what’s next.”
ESPN put out a statement as well on the mutual parting of ways.
“Jalen Rose will premiere a new ESPN podcast to be announced soon and expand his role across ESPN’S NBA studio coverage,” the statement read. “We thank David Jacoby for his many contributions during his team at ESPN and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
“Jalen & Jacoby” used to be a daily talk show that served on ESPN’s airways. I guess Rose is doing a podcast now? Not sure who has time in their day to listen to that but sounds great! Will ESPN miss what Jacoby brought to the table? Time will tell.
Just a guess here but could The Ringer become his next destination? Bill Simmons cares about the NBA more than any other platform and would likely pursue Jacoby if given the opportunity. Once upon a time, Jacoby was executive producer at ESPN’s Grantland, a site that Simmons started. Ryen Russillo, another former ESPN, works for The Ringer as well.
